The Real Thucydides’ Trap | The Diplomat

I thought this was interesting. Popularly the phrase ‘Thucydides Trap’ is being used to describe the way in which fear of a rising power propels and established – declining – power into war.

Here Whyte points out that ‘In Thucydides’ history, human emotion made conflict inevitable, and at several points where peace was possible, emotion propelled it forward.’

All you need is a demagogue or two…
